What happens to our muscles when we exercise? Our muscles are made up of lots of fibres laying parallel with each other like a group of straws. When we exercise to strengthen or increase our muscle power, we tear these fibres very slightly. A bit like the Bluetak. At this stage they are weak, and we need to allow a rest to heal. When they heal, they have increased in size and volume and increased in strength. If we keep exercising we can tear these fibres across, this can still heal but takes a lot longer. If we never allow this to heal it to become a chronic injury and need surgery to repair. One common thing over the last three weeks rest. It cannot be emphasised enough importance of rest in between training and importance of resting when injured. Understand when you’ve exercised, you have torn the muscle. The question is have you torn them enough that they can become bigger and stronger or have you torn them so badly that you’ve done permanent damage
